Time for another schoolproject I did recently.
TIME BASED – “Everything flows” is a famous quote from Heraclitus. With this he describes reality as a constant change and as such a reality impossible to grab. Search for possibilities to express this time and space flow.
Gods View – Polar Panoramic Video from Valentijn Kint on Vimeo.
I took the popular polar panorama technique and added time to create a Gods View. Well a light version that is :)
I originally intended to make a walk that ended where I started, starting in the morning ending in the morning to have a closed cyclical loop. As is everything in life. Day – Night, Life – Death – Birth, Winter – Spring – Summer – Autumn… To cover up my tripod I wanted a clock, that ticked in an constant speed, around this clock the world revolves. The speed of panoramas wouldn’t be the same speed. Suggesting le temps et la durĂ©e, objective vs. subjective time.
I call it Gods View (Light), cause it’s a view that show both what’s in front and behind at the same time.
Unfortunately, because of time issues I couldn’t complete it. I haven’t got panoramic video hardware. Don’t even have a fisheye. So it was a stop motion technique, 15.000+ fotos and many hours rotating that panohead, freezing my hand off till the point I couldn’t feel my finger pressing the shutter. Stitching went quick using a PTGui and a good template.
I planned to polish it up when I had more time, but a crashing hdd decided otherwise. I’m glad I had a backup of some .mov exports, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to show you. Hope you like it!
Update
I remembered emailing a sample to one my friends. Thank you Gmail for your unlimited storage! :)
This the image I had in mind with the clock.

Very nice. Cool concept and nice technique.
Some polishing up wouldn’t be bad though. ;)
